// ABOUT

WE CAME TO MAKE FILMS. THE LAND HAD BIGGER PLANS.

That's the opening statement — not the definition. What Boondocks Lab actually is comes next.

// 01 — WHAT IS BOONDOCKS LAB?

An incubation and creative laboratory

Boondocks Lab is an incubation and creative laboratory operated by Boondocks Incubation Center.

The organisation's roots go back to an incubation hub in Nairobi established in 2017. Its production history reaches further back through Fiction Entertainment, which began operations in 2013 and was legally registered in 2014.

Today, Boondocks Lab brings those experiences together in a broader working ecosystem spanning filmmaking, artificial intelligence, original storytelling, education, cultural archiving, agriculture, architecture, construction and technology.

// 02 — WHY A LAB?

Because experiments are the point

A lab means experiments are the point. We try things on purpose, in public, with the invoice and the outcome both visible.

Some experiments become companies. Some become films. Some become buildings. Some fail in public — and we publish those too, because a lab that only shows its successes is a marketing department.

// 03 — THE ESTATE

Thirty acres of black cotton soil

1.31°S / 37.26°E — MACHAKOS, KENYA. A working estate in Machakos, 30 km from Nairobi: film set, school, archive and farm in one stubborn piece of ground.

// 05 — OUR PEOPLE

The humans behind the experiments

Boondocks Lab is built by a small team of filmmakers, builders, teachers and archivists — plus the incubatees, students and collaborators who pass through the estate and leave it changed.

Titles change. Names don't.

// 06 — WHAT WE'RE BUILDING

Six experiments, one ecosystem

FILM & VIDEO

Commercials, documentaries, corporate films, live coverage. The work that pays the bills and keeps the cameras warm.

AI PRODUCTION

Run by AI, worked by hand. Planning, schedules, edits and audits — the machines do the boring parts so the humans can do the hard ones.

ORIGINALS

Mitatini — our telenovela, shot on the estate with the estate. Currently in development.

EDUCATION

The Academy and the Film School — because people keep showing up wanting to learn, and we ran out of excuses.

ARCHIVE

Kenya keeps throwing its history in the bin. Somebody had to catch it. Tapes, films and photos, rescued and digitized.

STRUCTURES & AGRICULTURE

Crazy Structures and Carcass d'Elegance — buildings and land use as creative experiments, on the estate itself.

// 07 — WHAT COMES NEXT

More experiments, same ground

Honestly? We don't know exactly. That's the point of a lab. The estate keeps growing, the archive keeps catching history, the school keeps teaching, and new experiments keep starting — some on screens, some in soil, some in concrete. What we can promise is that we'll keep building in public, rates in the open, failures included.

Build the next thing with us.

Bring us a story, a product, a box of tapes, or a wild idea. We'll bring the land, the cameras and the honest invoice.

This page was last rewritten when the ecosystem consolidated under Boondocks Lab. It will probably be rewritten again. Labs do that.
