// OPEN DOORS

HELP US BUILDTHE LAB.

Boondocks Lab is an incubation and creative laboratory on a 30-acre estate in Machakos, Kenya — a film school, a telenovela, a farm school and an archive, kept alive by production revenue and by partners who believe open education should be free. Partners fund, build, teach, create and connect. Pick a lane below — or make a sixth.

// WHAT PARTNERING LOOKS LIKE

FIVE LANES. PICK ONE — OR MAKE A SIXTH.

No tier decks, no sponsorship packages with your logo on a banner. These are the five concrete ways in.

01

FUND

Grants · Philanthropy · Donations

Grant-makers, foundations, philanthropists and individuals. Fund the school, the farm, the studio — or one specific thing on this estate you want to exist. Anonymous is fine; earmarking is fine too.

02

BUILD

Materials · Infrastructure · Equipment

Cement, timber, tents, cameras, lights, editing muscle. Help us build student camping facilities and put real gear in student hands. New, used or loaned — in-kind is as good as cash here.

03

TEACH

Training · Mentorship · Expertise

Curriculum design, accreditation guidance, guest tutors and mentors. Remote counts — a guest slot over a video call is a real slot. Open-education organizations are explicitly welcomed: if you believe open education should be free, this is your lane.

04

CREATE

Film · Technology · Storytelling

Co-produce the telenovela, build tools with the lab, tell stories from this estate. Or commission the crew — every invoice paid to the studio is money that keeps the school free. The work funds the work.

05

CONNECT

Distribution · Partnerships · Networks

Distribution for what we make, introductions to rooms we are not in yet, networks that carry Kenyan stories further. County programs, NGOs and broadcasters — the estate is a ready venue with a ready crew.

commissioned work is not charity — it is the business model. every invoice the studio earns is money the school doesn't have to beg for.

PROOF BEFORE PROMISES.

We are new and we say so. But the ground under this is real, and the work so far has real names on it.

// WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

  • > you hit send — that’s it. the message lands with a human, not a bot.
  • > we reply within a day, usually faster.
  • > if it fits, we set a call or a farm visit. if it doesn’t, we say so honestly and point you somewhere useful.
  • > no retainers demanded, no proposals ghosted. doors work both ways.

// WHAT SUPPORT FUNDS

WHERE THE MONEY ACTUALLY GOES.

Four things. Not “overhead”, not “operations” — four things you can point at.

  1. 01

    STUDENT CAMPING FACILITIES

    In development right now. Tents, bedding, wash stations — so a student from Malaa or Mutalia can stay on the estate for a shoot week instead of travelling home each night.

  2. 02

    GUEST-SLOT STIPENDS

    Community cast members show up for the telenovela between casual jobs. A stipend means they can say yes to a shoot day without losing a day’s wage.

  3. 03

    CAMERAS & LIGHTS FOR STUDENTS

    Gear students can actually touch, break, fix and learn on — not gear they watch a tutor use from the back row.

  4. 04

    FARM INPUTS

    Seed, feed and soil amendments that keep the farm producing — and the farm feeds the school. Lunch on a shoot day is not a small thing.
